La NASA compie cinquant'anni e per festeggiare cosa fa? Spara i Beatles nel deep space, ben oltre le frontiere del sistema solare, cosicché anche eventuali extraterrestri dall'udito fino possano godersi le note di Across the Universe. Visto l'entusiasmo che l'omonimo film ha recentemente generato in me, ho deciso di partecipare anch'io ai festeggiamenti - tra i migliori che mi vengano in mente per il fatidico '68 che quest'anno ci scasserà per altri versi terribilmente le scatole - proponendo il testo della canzone in questione e qualche cenno storico. Composta ai primi del '68, anche se pubblicata nel '70, è interamente opera di John Lennon ed è, IMHO, una delle cose migliori da lui scritte. E' strettamente connessa alla cultura psichedelica del periodo, ma ancor più all'intenso studio della cultura indiana cui i Beatles, sull'onda di quella, si dedicavano all'epoca. Compare nello splendido Let It Be, insieme ad altri capolavori più o meno noti come The Long and Winding Road, One After 909 e I Me Mine. Buon ascolto!
